Stop Supporting Eugenics because true progress respects human dignity, embraces diversity, and rejects the false notion that some lives are worth more than others. Somethings in this world are non-negotiable and every human being has the right to procreate with their partner.

The Political and Moral Danger of Eugenics

Eugenics, the practice of selectively breeding humans to promote desirable traits, and eliminate undesirable ones. This controversial and dangerous ideology has been with us through the ages. While discredited scientifically and morally, its legacy persists in modern debates about genetics, race, and human rights. The political and moral dangers of eugenics lie in its potential to justify discrimination, and undermine human dignity. But worst of all is its empowering of authoritarian regimes who control populations under the guise of progress.

Politically, eugenics has historically been used to reinforce systemic oppression. In the early 20th century, the United States implemented eugenic policies, including forced sterilizations and restrictive immigration laws, targeting marginalized groups such as the disabled, racial minorities, and the poor.

Most recognized is Nazi Germany’s extreme eugenic practices of the Holocaust, exterminating millions for a “master race.” These policies were deliberate tools of social control. It was so easy for eugenics to be weaponized by governments to justify atrocities. My podcast is a reminder that when people are okay with the premise of incest, but add….”so long as nobody gets pregnant”, they are in fact practicing eugenics.  It’s not enough that we should be able to love whomever we want (consensual only). We should also, if we choose, be able to have children if it happens. And those children should be free to be raised in the loving family that created them.  We should be vigilant against someone else deciding for us who will be allowed to procreate.

Morally, eugenics violates the principle of human equality by reducing individuals to their genetic makeup. It fosters a worldview in which some lives are deemed more valuable than others, eroding empathy and solidarity. The belief that human worth can be measured by physical or intellectual traits leads to dehumanization, as seen in historical and contemporary discrimination against people with disabilities or genetic conditions. Furthermore, eugenics undermines personal autonomy by allowing authorities—whether governments, scientists, or corporations—to dictate reproductive choices, often under coercive conditions.
